Working From Home 🏠
Hello friends!
I hope you're enjoying this Serial Maker newsletter! If you missed any of the past editions, make sure to check them out. And if you know someone who might benefit from this newsletter, please forward this email to a friend. 😀
Many people have recently found themselves working from home due to the Coronavirus outbreak. I worked from home for seven years and set a number of rules for myself to get the most out of it.
Here are my 5 tips for working from home 🏠
1. Keep your morning routine
Wake up when you normally do and perform your regular routine. Shower and dress like you're going into work. Use your new-found commute time to make breakfast if you usually just grab something on the way out the door.
2. Work regular business hours
If you usually work 9-5, keep those hours. Having a regular start and stop time will keep you from procrastinating when there's no one to hold you accountable.
3. Have a dedicated workspace
Don't prop a laptop on your bed to work. Set up an area in your work-from-home space that's dedicated exclusively to work. Just having that tiny separation prevents muddying up personal time and work time.
4. Mute is your friend
We've all heard that one coworker's dog bark in the background on a conference call. Or a toilet flush! Don't be that coworker. Mute your line unless you're actively talking. And always assume you're not on mute. You never know when your doorbell is going to ring, and it's likely right when you're in the middle of an important call.
5. Get outside
Simply opening a window to look outside can alleviate any stir-crazy sensations you may have. If you can go for a quick walk after lunch, do so. I used to walk my dog as a way to get outside. There's nothing worse than realizing at the end of the day that you don't even know if it rained or was sunny.
Keep making, and thanks for reading! 🙌
Hit reply to tell me what you're making. I'm looking for anyone interested in talking about their own side-projects and maker journey, so speak up if you'd like to appear in Serial Maker. I'd also love to know what you thought of this issue, and what you want to hear about in the future.
Until next week,
Craig
