The Big Links Issue ๐
Hello friends!
I hope you're enjoying this Serial Maker newsletter! If you missed any of the past editions, make sure to check them out. And if you know someone who might benefit from this newsletter, please forward this email to a friend. ๐
When I set out to start a personal newsletter, I had no idea if I would be able to actually generate regular content on a weekly basis. It's not easy, but somehow I've managed to find a topic that interests me and piece together the words to talk about it each week. What I've found more than anything is that putting my thoughts into concrete writing clarifies the concepts I find to be helpful as a maker. I hope you find it helpful as well.
This week, I'm celebrating 10 weeks of consistent emails ๐ with links to stuff I found to be inspiring and useful for anyone interested in making stuff.ย Enjoy!
This issue is full of links ๐
ย
Links for makers from around the web
Adobe Photoshop now on iPad
Now you can push those pixels when you don't have your laptop handy.
Snap Kit
It's a smart move on Snap's part to get developers interested in integrating their own apps and platforms with Snapchat. I haven't had a chance to play around with this yet, but at first glance, it appears to have great potential.
Stripe CLI
Stripe released a command-line interface for developers to get up and running even faster with their awesome payment processing service.
Google open-sourced Cardboard
Now you too can hack on and contribute to Google Cardboard, the low-tech VR solution for smartphones.
PureCSS Lace
Diana Smith builds these photo-realistic paintings using nothing but CSS. It's mind-blowing if you've ever had to wrangle with CSS and its idiosyncrasies.
Tailwind CSS
Tailwind is the hottest new utility-first CSS framework. If you're building anything in React or another component-centric framework, check it out.
Line Awesome
Swap solid Font Awesome icons to line art with one line of code.
Make & Shine
An indie maker's guide to personal branding by Anne-Laure Le Cunff. Anne-Laure has been following her own advice in this book for the past year, and it's obvious that her approach is paying off.
Makerlog
A web-based tool to help you stay accountable by completing tasks for your side-projects in public.
Maker's Kitchen
A Slack workspace for makers. This community is super-active.
Send Girls to Coding Camp II
Jersey Shore Women in Tech is running its second fundraiser to send local girls from low-income families to Plum Crazy Robotics. Make sure to support this worthy cause.
Thanks for reading! ๐
Hit reply to tell me what you're making. I'm looking for anyone interested in talking about their own side-projects and maker journey, so speak up if you'd like to appear in Serial Maker. I'd also love to know what you thought of this issue, and what you want to hear about in the future.
Until next week,
Craig
