Content Is King 👑
Hello friends!
I hope you're enjoying your weekly newsletter. If you missed any of the past editions, make sure to check them out!
Maybe you're a writer yourself. Or you use content marketing for your product. Or you want to start making things on a regular basis. This issue is for you.
I started this newsletter to force myself to write. Having a deadline each week keeps the pressure on to generate content. This newsletter is challenging me to be consistent. It's holding me accountable. It's not easy.
Let's talk about content. 📝
TLDR
How to consistently generate content
Have someone or something to hold you accountable
Keep a notebook/scrapbook/journal/sketchbook for ideas
Content Is Important
My first foray into building a multiplayer game, and my first battle with content, was The Schoolyard, a simple Facebook role-playing game set in a school-like environment. Players could explore the school grounds, train, and battle each other at the flagpole, gaining experience and levels like a typical role-playing game.
At launch, I included gameplay through level 10. As the game and the player population grew, I rolled out special holiday events for people to discover. I increased the level cap several times. Each time, a good number of players almost immediately burned through the new content and capped their character at the top level.
It was exhausting coming up with new scenarios to maintain the interest of die-hard players. Eventually, I couldn't keep up with the demand for new content and moved on.
This is the first time I realized how important content is. And that content is hard.
But consistent content is not out of reach. It requires discipline. And you should be genuinely interested in what you're creating. Below you'll find some tools and articles I find to help me generate consistent content for this newsletter and my website.
